Canberra Balloon Spectacular 2015

So i’m backdating a few of my posts so you can get a complete picture of Chris Osborne Adventures when I started making videos of my adventures back in 2013.

This is where my ballooning adventures started in 2015.

Ive always wanted to visit the balloon festival in Canberra but i always thought it was a winter event. So when winter arrived and i looked up balloon festivals and once again yep you guessed it i’d missed out once again. Last year on a Thursday afternoon at work i thought i’d look up what to do on the weekend, for a change i thought id try and plan something. I could hardly believe my luck the balloon festival was on and this year and i was not going to miss it for the fourth year in a row.

So Friday after work i was driving the 3hr trip down to our capital Canberra for the week long Canberra Balloon Spectacular 2015.

Leaving things to the spur of the moment there was slim picking on the accommodation so i thought id get some place close and stayed at the lovely Hyatt Canberra. This was such a nice place to stay and the all you can eat buffet was to die for. I think this put me into a food coma for the rest of the night.

Up the next day at ridiculous o’clock to see the balloons, i was giggling like a little kid not the 41yr old that i am supposed to be. Once i was outside in the crisp air i could see across the road hundreds of people heading in one direction, i was amazed at the amount of people out at 6am on a Saturday morning. My pace was quickening and i had such a big grin on my face i could hardly control my excitement. I wasn’t even going up in one today.

Then i turned a corner and before me was the noise of balloons been inflated with massive fans and gas. I think for the first 30mins i forgot to take photos. Then my brain kicked in and out came the cameras. Once i saw Yoda inflating i was left speechless and the music started and on looked a group of storm troopers saluting and Yoda rose into the sky.

To the west i could see other balloons that were now into the sky and a full moon was setting and i was hoping that Yoda would fly in the same direction and i imagined the moon as the death star. With a little creative editing i managed to super impose the images together in my film clip.

Even though its a very early start its well worth getting out of bed and the 3hr drive down to Canberra.

Here is my Youtube link to the Canberra Balloon Spectacular 2015. Enjoy

Sunday was another early start. Today was my first Balloon flight, i arrived at Questacon and filled out the normal forms to say you could die and it’s not their responsibility. I choose Dawn Drifters only because Dawns my mothers name and no other reason. The air was so still that the test balloons were going straight up and the main balloons were left on the car trailers.

So after about an 1hr we were told that the balloons would be located to another launch site, about 20mins down the road. I felt sorry for the hundreds of people that came to see the balloons that day because as far a i knew they were not told were we all went off to.

I won’t go into all the details of the flight as i said before i’m not the best at explaining what i was feeling and the amazing view high above Canberra. This is my first attempt on wordpress so i can’t guarantee that everything been done correctly yet.

In two hrs i’m driving back down to Canberra for 2016 Balloon Spectacular. So heres my link to last years flight.

Enjoy and i’ll chat soon.

    1. Yes I love kayaking but seem to end up hiking more often as it’s just easier to throw a bag in the car and go off. Over the next few months I’m going to make more of an effort to get into bikepacking and start doing some overnight kayaks. I just worry about leaving the car some place overnight so I’ll have to look into that more. Thank you for watching my videos.
I used a canoe twice when I was trying n Canada the other year and was nice to move around the canoe and stretch out a bit.
Question for you do you watch them through WordPress’s or my YouTube channel.
      Thanks for watching my videos
